Steinsdotter and Occult Hardware Join Forces for Explosive Remix of “The Village”

LONDON, UK (June 25, 2025) — London’s rising experimental artist Steinsdotter is back this summer with a striking reinvention of her fan-favorite track “The Village,” this time in collaboration with boundary-breaking multimedia duo Occult Hardware. The single drops July 20, and it’s a genre-shattering collision of folk-pop roots and experimental rock intensity.

Originally featured on Steinsdotter’s acclaimed EP ‘3’, “The Village” was praised for its folk-tinged melodies, marching drum grooves, and darkly ironic lyrics that paint a vivid picture of her upbringing in a small Norwegian town. Now, with Occult Hardware’s signature edge, the track is reborn: louder, sharper, and more unrelenting than ever.

“The remix keeps the same emotional DNA as the original,” says Steinsdotter. “But with Occult Hardware, it feels like the shadow version of the village—like walking through the same streets in a fever dream.”

Known for their genre-defiant sound and mythic audiovisual live sets, Occult Hardware (Fayann Smith and Robert Burnham) inject “The Village” with a visceral mix of bass metal, industrial textures, and distorted dancefloor energy. The result is an anthem that’s equal parts nostalgic and rebellious, like a sonic exorcism of small-town ghosts.

“We wanted to take Steinsdotter’s memoryscape and rip it open,” says Occult Hardware. “What’s lurking underneath the surface of nostalgia? That’s what we were chasing.”

Occult Hardware’s roots in experimental performance and pop deconstruction have led them to stages across the globe, including Glastonbury, and to features in the likes of Vogue, Dazed, BBC Television, and more. Their remix of “The Village” marks a bold new chapter for both artists—bridging folk introspection with occult spectacle. This collaboration is more than a remix…it’s a reckoning.

“The Village” (Occult Hardware Remix) is out July 20 on all streaming platforms.
